Sarah Lynch, a tax examiner from Austin, Texas

Sarah Lynch on Jeopardy!

Caleb Groen, a law & policy student originally from Thousand Oaks, California (5-day total: $103,200)

Caleb Groen on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Caleb Groen is now a 5-time Jeopardy! champion, and has guaranteed his spot in next winter’s Tournament of Champions. Until then, though, he gets to play as long as he keeps winning, with Sarah Lynch and Anthony Kim looking to end Caleb’s run at five games.

One thing that might surprise a lot of people is how closely Caleb is ranked to Jamie Ding right now, especially considering that Jamie seemed to be more dominant in his set of games. The chief difference between the two players, one that has made up most of the Coryat score difference between the two players, is that Caleb is averaging over $8,000 a game on Daily Doubles—significantly more than Jamie averaged. What that does mean, though, is that Jamie might have “room for improvement” when it comes to the ToC, which may work to his advantage come February 2027. On the flip side, if Caleb does end up outplaying Jamie on the Daily Doubles, we might have a situation similar to the 2021 Tournament of Champions, where Jennifer Quail lost to Sam Kavanaugh specifically because Jennifer wasn’t aggressive enough on the Daily Doubles in the Final.

Final Jeopardy! Category: Alliterative Literature

Final Jeopardy! Clue: This collection begins with a poem not by the credited author but by his rival Ben Jonson, commenting on an engraving

Correct response: What is the First Folio?

More Information About Final Jeopardy!:

Ben Jonson’s famous poem “To the reader” appears alongside the famous Martin Droeshout engraving of a portrait of William Shakespeare himself, as the introduction to Mr. William Shakespeare’s Comedies, Histories, & Tragedies—best known as the First Folio.

I think people are very likely to get to Shakespeare here, but it might take something to get away from a response of “Shakespeare’s Sonnets” intead of “First Folio”—as long as people remember the category and remember that alliteration is required.
