Jamie Ding on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Jamie Ding has qualified for the Tournament of Champions, and enters into this week as a 6-game champion. Interestingly, the bubble the last two Tournaments of Champions for the bye into the semifinals has come at seven games—how Jamie does the next few days may be very crucial for his Tournament of Champions chances overall. Certainly, not having to get through a quarterfinal makes it much easier to take the overall crown. Another interesting consideration is that this would be Jamie’s third consecutive day heading to the studio; you might see him start to tire by the end of the week as a result.

Your challengers today are Erin Howard of Massachusetts and Max Genecov of Philadelphia.

Final Jeopardy! Clue: Before taking office in 1801, President Jefferson asked the Army to locate this officer who had “knowledge of the western country”

Correct response: Who is Meriwether Lewis?

More Information About Final Jeopardy!:

Before becoming famous as one of the leaders of the Corps of Discovery (the Lewis and Clark expedition), Meriwether Lewis served as Private Secretary to the President for Thomas Jefferson; the two were acquainted through Virginia society.

It’ll be interesting to see how this Final Jeopardy plays; unless you know a lot of biographical details here of both Lewis and Clark, I suspect you’d be flipping a coin between the two of them.

Game Recap & Tonight’s Game Stats:

Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! today? Here’s the Monday, March 23, 2026 Jeopardy! by the numbers, along with a recap:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: A Place In History; NATO Phonetic Alphabet Suggestions; Super Bowl Ads; Animal Idioms; Science AKAs; Fitting Sports Names)

Thanks to picking up $4,200 from the Daily Double, Jamie had the lion’s share of the money through 15 clues; at the break, the scores were Jamie $10,400 Max $3,400 Erin $600.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Jamie 8 correct 0 incorrect
Max 5 correct 0 incorrect
Erin 1 correct 0 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Erin was once trapped inside a mall during a blizzard.
Max claims to be related to the inventor of the Reuben sandwich.
Jamie helps manage the low income housing tax credit in New Jersey.

Max picked up 7 correct after the break, but Jamie still led on the strength of his early play. On the opening board, Jamie went 4/5 in animal idoms and 3/5 in science AKAs, wile Max went 4/5 in Super Bowl ads and 3/5 in suggested replacements to the NATO Phonetic Alphabet.

Max $7,200
Erin $1,800

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: His Widow Lived On; PCI: Pop Culture Initials; A Bit Of Lit; Middle “C”; Mexican Geography; Farewells)

Max played well, but this came down to the Daily Doubles and incorrect responses. Jamie got DD2 correct, while Max missed DD3 and missed a couple of other clues along the way; this meant that Jamie had a runaway entering Final Jeopardy. On that second board, Max went 3/5 in widows, while Jamie went 3/5 in Middle “C” and farewells.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Jamie 25 correct 0 incorrect
Max 22 correct 3 incorrect
Erin 7 correct 1 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 11 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Jamie $28,200
Max $9,800
Erin $1,400

I’m sure a lot of people at home will be pleased with this; we had a triple-get today in Final Jeopardy. That makes Jamie a 7-day champion with nearly $200,000 in winnings. Jamie goes for win #8 tomorrow.

Tonight’s results:

Erin $1,400 + $1,000 = $2,400 (Who is Lewis?)
Max $9,800 + $6,000 = $15,800 (Who is Lewis?)
Jamie $28,200 + $4,800 = $33,000 (Who is Lewis?) (7-day total: $195,203)

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • I don’t like the fact that I have to post such a disclaimer, but there are always people who join an episode late and get confused. The NATO phonetic alphabet category didn’t deal with actual changes, just whimsical suggested ones.
  • Today’s double runaway means that no wagering suggestions need to be posted.
  • Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.
