Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

As we come to the conclusion of Week #44 of 46 of Season 42 of Jeopardy!, we have a 6-day champion occupying the champion’s lectern in Caleb Groen, who picked up a season high yesterday with a score of $60,000. Today, he faces off against Kristal LeMastre and Chris Bergman.

As things stand right now, Caleb isn’t quite the favorite to win the Tournament of Champions; he’d at least need to get to the 12-13 win mark at the very least to earn that status. (Essentially, Jamie Ding is going to be considered the favorite at this point, simply by virtue of the top 3 seeds receiving byes through to the semifinals.)

In other Jeopardy! news, ESPN Jeopardy! hosted by Joe Buck will be debuting on Hulu, Disney+, and the ESPN app on July 31. (It’s not as if I was considering a vacation around that time or anything.)

Final Jeopardy! Category: Tributes

Final Jeopardy! Clue: To her 1910 funeral, “The survivors of the Balaclava Light Brigade charge” sent an arrangement “to our benefactress & friend”

Correct response: Who is Florence Nightingale?

More Information About Final Jeopardy!:

As The Guardian wrote in its 1910 obituary for Florence Nightingale:

The cleansing and adaptation of the hospital, the establishment of a laundry and of sick-diet kitchens, the supply of food and all kinds of necessaries, and the organisation of a regular system of nursing and a staff of nurses, for many had to be dismissed as incompetent – all this was planned and carried through under the terrible pressure of a constant race with death.

Nightingale was credited with saving many members of the British army in the Crimean War with her care, and the survivors repaid the favor to her with a floral arrangement of white flowers with a letter “B” in blue flowers in the middle to her 1910 funeral. (This was among many of the arrangements sent to her funeral.)

This felt relatively straightforward to me; we’ll see how it plays in general.
