Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Today’s second quarterfinal in the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament features Eric Ahasic, Roger Craig, and Veronica Vichit-Vadakan. Roger has been seeded after returning from Jeopardy! Masters, while Eric hasn’t been seen since the 2022 Tournament of Champions and Veronica the 2021 ToC. Eric, though, is the strongest player in this field in terms of taking advantage of Daily Doubles—Roger, of course, was one of the OGs at the same, while Veronica finished third to Sam Kavanaugh and Jennifer Quail in that 2021 tournament, and is still an incredibly strong player of Jeopardy!; I am expecting this to be a very closely contested match. The Unified Prediction Model, though, does think that Veronica got the toughest draw of any player in the opening round.
One thing that I would like to note in general is that ratings are still generally higher for tournament play compared to regular play, as the average viewer—note: the diehard fan who posts about the show on Reddit, Twitter, or Facebook is not the average viewer here—is generally more invested in the tournaments and will tune in to watch more often. Thus, it is always a good reminder that the anti-tournament crowd is simply a vocal minority within the show’s audience and should be ignored. My traffic here at the site—which, for the better part of the past decade has correlated incredibly well with the show’s viewership numbers—is higher during tournament play compared to regular play.
This is also reminder that due to the Winter Olympics, Jeopardy! is going to start to be preempted in a number of NBC markets. Check local listings, or Matt Carberry’s Google sheet. It should also be noted that the earliest airing of the show has moved forward to 4:30 AM Central in Tupelo, Mississippi. Obviously, this will mean results will be published earlier than the usual time.

More Information About Final Jeopardy!:
Known as a Dominican friar and painter, Fra Angelico came to prominence after receiving the patronage of Cosimo de’ Medici; at San Marco, he became known for painting the Deposition of Christ as well as the aforementioned altarpiece.
In the 1980s, he was beatified by Pope John Paul II and was later declared the patron of Catholic artists.
I think we’ll see a lot of guesses of “Donatello” here, considering that Donatello was also patronized by the Medici family; this is one of those things where you just have to know that one of Fra Angelico’s best-known works was the San Marco Altarpiece.
