More Information About Final Jeopardy!:

The Magic Mountain is Thomas Mann’s 1924 work in which its protagonist, Hans Castorp, visits his cousin Joachim Ziemssen, who is recovering from tuberculosis in the Swiss Alps, spending time at a sanatorium in Davos, Switzerland. In the 1970s, German engineer Klaus Schwab, looking to introduce European firms to American management practices, began the European Management Symposium in Davos, which became the World Economic Forum in 1987.

This ends up being an extremely recent Current Events Final Jeopardy clue; the 2026 edition of the World Economic Forum—which will likely be remembered in the future as the venue of Mark Carney’s special address—took place just a week before taping of this tournament. If this Final ends up deciding the tournament, I think it would be a very worthy Final to do so.

This tournament was coming down to Final Jeopardy, with Roger just outside of score contention. On the second board, Long went 3/5 in vitamins and minerals, while Andrew went 3/5 in Books & Authors, 4/5 in fantastical settings, and 5/5 in that aforementioned loan words category.

Andy’s Thoughts:

• I feel obligated to point this out: Only the film is titled The Bridge On The River Kwai. The novel is titled The Bridge Over The River Kwai.

• In hindsight, everything makes more sense. Because the show has seven weeks of reruns to fill this summer (thanks to Labor Day being on September 7 this year), having the JIT be 3 games shorter means that the show is able to fit in all of Champions Wildcard, the Tournament of Champions, and the JIT in its 7-week rerun schedule this summer.
