As you’ll see below, Adam took advantage of both Daily Doubles, and then Terry went on a charge to reel him in! This was among one of the most exciting matches in the history of the series, and it came down to whomever gets the Final Jeopardy! clue below — a clue that I thought was excellent and was very worthy of determining today’s champion.

Final Jeopardy! category: THE USFL ERA

Final Jeopardy! clue: An ex-college player, this actor was a minority owner of the Tampa Bay Bandits

Who is Burt Reynolds?

Scores going into Final:
Adam $13,750
Terry $13,750
Paul $5,250

Final Results:
Paul $5,250 + $5,200 = $10,450
Adam $13,750 – $13,750 = $0 (Who is John Wayne?)
Terry $13,750 + $13,750 = $27,500 (3-day total: $15,000)

(Note: Although Adam would have had second-place tiebreaker advantage over Terry by virtue of leading $3,750 – $2,750 after the opening round, Dan revealed Adam’s response first.)

Daily Double locations:
1) HACKING WIKIPEDIA 1000 (16th pick)
Terry 2250 -2250 (Paul 2750 Adam 1500)
—
2) BATTING CHAMPS 1000 (3rd pick)
Adam 4250 +3000 (Paul 2750 Terry 1250)
3) CALIFORNIA 2000 (5th pick)
Adam 7750 +5000 (Paul 2750 Terry 1250)

On the scoreboard:
02 – 90
42 – 01

  • Andy,I know that we haven’t agreed on a lot of things, but I’m a happy camper that someone got Final Sports Jeopardy! right for the 1st time in 4 or 5 weeks. It’s about time.

Hey, differing opinions on this is fine.

For the record, though, I thought this was a harder clue from a Sports Jeopardy perspective than both the hockey and the Olympic Cities final as of late. I got both of those immediately. This one took about ten seconds before it clicked as to “why would the team be called The Bandits?”

That being said, a Final like this, with a movie Tease-Out Metric, heavily favors a player like Terry who has enough knowledge to pass the regular-show test (as evidenced by his appearance on the Big Show).
