Like the nail polish blogger, Megan’s eye contact was poor as Johnny Gilbert described her. She had a long introduction, and didn’t look at the camera til her name was said.
I did like how Megan dove for the clues of higher value when time was running out in each round. In the Jeopardy round, there were 6 clues left when Mr. Trebek gave the “less than a minute warning,” and 2 clues stayed covered. In the Double Jeopardy round, there were 7 clues left when Mr. Trebek gave the “less than a minute” warning, and another 2 clues left covered.
I love one-day champ Sean’s deep voice, height, and swagger (as evidenced by his picture today). He had a big lead by the first break with 6000, while Judy had 600 and Megan had 800.
I almost fell for the same trap Sean did (“disaster”) on this clue in A State of…: “This, like the one Gov. Schwarzenegger declared in Santa Barbara County on July 3, 2008 due to wildfires.” Sean got the next clue, but then the poor guy looked pained when Judy rang in first on this clue after just talking about his daughter of the same name: “This, the condition of being in God’s favor or one of the elect.” Sean got the next one, then Judy the last one in the category.
I didn’t love Without My Partner, as it was way too easy to neg and than too easy for someone else to pick it up without working for it. I went 2/5 there. Words Within Words reminded me of Monday’s Anagrammed Europe. I should’ve swept but didn’t, just missing this one in that category: “Broderick’s credit rating was atrocious; he was always ‘in the’ this.” Even if you don’t find the word hidden, what else could it be?
I got this triple-stumper in Geology, though Megan’s “lava” should’ve been accepted: “Chromite, from which we get chromium, is formed when this cools & solidifies underground.”
Everyone did very well today in the first two rounds. Sean had 15600 at the end of Double Jeopardy, while Judy had 12800 and Megan had 13600. The Final Jeopardy category was Shakespeare’s Plays, which threatened to ruin my Final sweep this week. And it did. Otherwise I like the clue a lot. I’d have gotten it eventually, as I’m sure most of us would have. Here it is: “The only 2 plays whose titles repeat a word, excluding articles & prepositions, are ‘Measure for Measure’ & this.” Judy got it right and added 12500. Megan got it too and added 10000, which is a shame: Since Sean missed it she’d have won if she’d wagered more. Sean lost 11601.
That rebel Megan left a personal message despite contestant coordinators’ admonishment not to do that. (Had to look up the noun for “admonish” to make sure! :-)) And Mr. Trebek praised her for it! Anyway we will not see her tomorrow, but we will see Cat Still, who I referred to earlier this week. Looking forward to that one.
