Here’s tonight’s Final Jeopardy answer and question for Tuesday, November 29, 2016:
Final Jeopardy! category: LITERATURE
Final Jeopardy! clue/answer: In 2009 Amazon remotely deleted unauthorized copies of this 1949 novel from some customers’ Kindles
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Jennifer Berry, a Medicare appeals coordinator from Indianapolis, Indiana
Dan Chafetz/b>, a data specialist from Essex Junction, Vermont
Justin Bender, an technical engineer from Boulder, Colorado (2-day total: $20,799)
According to this article on Slate, someone haduploaded bootlegged copies using the Kindle Store’s self-publishing system, and Amazon was only trying to look after publishers’ intellectual property. But, of course, the irony was too amusing. Shortly after the incident, Amazon was sued and settled, promising in the settlement it would only delete books from Kindles if specific conditions were met.
A “regulatory body” requesting Amazon delete books would never actually happen in America, though, would it?
