The spots on the Internet where people look at the Clue of the Day and take their guesses were convinced that it was Napoleon today. Not quite! (The fact that I’d be rather hard-pressed to classify Napoleon as a monarch aside…)
The story of Louis XVIII’s reign is something I found rather fascinating as I was looking things up about it, though!
In any case, after the French Revolution, the man who would become Louis XVIII refused to abdicate his claim to the French throne and travelled around Europe promoting the Royalist cause. It worked out for him, eventually, after the Allied armies restored the monarchy in May 1814.
