On Matt Jackson’s Facebook group, he mentioned that the current champion (Matt Hoffer-Hawlik) is also a Yale quiz bowl alum! I could go either way on how things are going to go for our new champ. Most of his winnings yesterday were because of Daily Doubles (which can be volatile), or, he could hit a stride and go for a long run!
Today’s contestants:
Bonnie Megel, an administrative assistant from Grinnell, IA
Neil Sondov, a psychotherapist from Greenville, SC
Matt Hoffer-Hawlik, an investment banker & strategy consultant from Boston, MA (1-day total: $29,601)
Final Jeopardy! category: BRITISH LITERARY CHARACTERS
Final Jeopardy! clue: In an 1887 novel this narrator’s old wartime injury is in his shoulder; in an 1890 novel by the same author, it’s in his leg
Who is Watson?

The post “Shoulder or Leg?” over on “Good-Night Mister Sherlock Holmes” speaks of this discrepancy.
Neil Sondov is a Board of Directors member of SCCADVASA (The South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault). SCCADVASA is a statewide coalition of the 23 domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy organizations in South Carolina, including Safe Harbor and the Julie Valentine Center in Greenville. Not wanting to have a viewing party, he was convinced to — provided that the proceeds go to SCCADVASA.
Here’s the link for tickets for Neil Sondov’s “Questions for a Cause” viewing party. If you aren’t in the Greenville area and still want to support, “There In Spirit” donations can be made through July 15th at the ticketing link.
