Here’s tonight’s Final Jeopardy answer and question for Wednesday, February 8, 2017:
Final Jeopardy! category: NATIONAL ANTHEMS
Final Jeopardy! clue/answer: In her memoirs Queen Liliuokalani tells us that before Hawaii had its own national anthem, it used this one
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Kirstin Cutts, a graduate student from Austin, Texas
Carl Falstrom, an immigration attorney from New Orleans, Louisiana
Jody Jabbora, a retired postal clerk from Las Vegas, Nevada (1-day total: $25,600)

“God Save The King” (or, “God Save The Queen” when the monarch was female), in spite of it being British, was used by the Kingdom of Hawaii from 1810 to 1860. In 1860, Kamehameha IV ran a contest to set the tune to Hawaiian lyrics, and it became “E Ola Ke Alii Ke Akua”. Later, “He Mele Lahui Hawaii” and “Hawaii Ponoi” became anthems.
