Here’s tonight’s Final Jeopardy answer and question for Thursday, December 22, 2016:
Final Jeopardy! category: LITERARY INSPIRATIONS
Final Jeopardy! clue/answer: Seen here, the white city built for Chicago’s 1893 Columbian Exposition is said to have inspired this author who then lived near it
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Brad Snyder, a consulting electrical engineer from Port Deposit, Maryland
Amelia Reinwald, an abuse prevention educator from Irving, Texas
Sam Scovill, a G.I.S. technician from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (1-day total: $22,001)

From Backstory’s “The Wizard in the White City”:
The idea of a central city is important here too. The White City asserted Chicago’s dominance as a new commercial and creative capital in a nation looking West. It was a newly built city, at the geographic center of the country and removed from the traditions of the northeast. So when Baum created the capital of Oz, he modeled it after his adopted home, Chicago – smack dab in the middle of the country.Like the Emerald City, the White City was built on humbug. The neoclassical buildings appeared to be solid marble, but their facades were actually plaster. Years before cinema, the World’s Fair was like a monumental film set. And it turned out to be about as permanent.
