My Coryat from this weekend’s episode, originally airing 9-21-11: 24600 (26800 without negs).
Andy’s asked me to give the deets on the end of yesterday’s episode, because his computer froze this morning while blogging. Since I’m not a fan of the two-in-one recap style, Andy has agreed to let me just link to the archive. Luckily the game’s already there. My Coryat that day was 33000 (36200 without negs).
Before I get to today’s episode, Andy mentioned I’d be posting a poll for former contestants. It’s inspired by this thread on the message boards. Would you play again? And I’m not talking about a second time. I’m talking about your original run. Feel free to leave a comment anywhere, why you voted the way you did.
Rebecca, then, won her 4th episode yesterday. Her opponents today:

Scott clearly doesn’t watch baseball. He negged on this one in April: “This league confounded purists when the designated hitter rule made its debut on April 6, 1973.” Okay but he selects clues very slowly too, with no apparent direction. He is a public library assistant, though! And Rebecca writes dystopian fiction. Scott had 3 negs already before the first break, but he’d gotten 2 right too. He was in the hole 400. Tara was on a roll after negging on the first clue of the game. She had gotten 7 right and had 3400. Rebecca had gotten 6 right and had 3200.
Rebecca found the Daily Double of the round, in Alphanumeric Terms. She had gotten one right since the break and had 3600. Scott had gotten one right too and was in the black 400. Rebecca paused for a long time before wagering everything on this easy one (sorry): “Its peak reaches 28,250 feet & is often surrounded by clouds.” I don’t know how she missed this but I’m sure she’ll explain on the message boards.
At the end of the round, Mr. Trebek pointed out Rebecca was still in third place, at 2800. She’d gotten 4 right since her Daily Double. Tara had gotten one wrong and 3 right, and had 4800. Scott had gotten 5 right and had 3600. I went 27/30 in the Jeopardy round with no negs!
“Tax” Time was a harsh reminder for me. I’ll get it done in the next couple of days. I got this triple-stumper in the category though: “The rules for the formation of grammatical sentences in a language.”
Tara found the first Daily Double of Double Jeopardy, in National Flowers. She had gotten 3 right and had 6800. Rebecca had gotten 4 right and had 9200. Scott had gotten one wrong and had 2800. Tara wagered 3000 on this clue: “This country loves its Linnaea Borealis, named after a native son.” She and I got it wrong.
Mr. Trebek gave the less-than-a-minute warning with 6 clues left. So I couldn’t believe it when Scott negged immediately afterward on this one in Poet, Know It: “‘Therefore, ’tis with full happiness that I/will trace the story of Endymion.'” Then Rebecca did too! Luckily for her opponents Rebecca did not have a runaway at the end of the round. There were two clues left covered. I believe Scott had gotten one wrong since Tara’s Daily Double, and 5 right. He had 7200. Tara had gotten 3 right and had 7400. Rebecca had gotten 6 right and the one wrong and had 13200. The Final Jeopardy category was 20th Century Names. This was the clue: “In 2012 her picture replaced that of Julio Argentino Roca on a currency note.” This was a no-brainer to me. Scott got it right, and added 7100. Tara had it right too, and doubled her score. Rebecca of course had it right too, and added 1800, making her a 5-time champ now.
My Coryat was 35600, and I had one 800 neg.
