Guten tag! Andy here with a double recap of Wednesday and Thursday:

First up: Erin Murphy and Andre Green are the challengers for Tim Anderson; Tim won $56,001 over his first 3 games!

J! round categories:
A BUNCH OF BOOKS
AMERICAN FOOD & DRINK
THEIR MIDDLE INITIAL
NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARKS
LEGENDS OF ROCK
AN UNFINISHED CATEG

It was not a good start for Erin; she did not get a chance to ring in over the first 15 clues! The Daily Double came out on the 15th clue of the round (NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARKS $600), and Tim got to play it! Scores were:

Andre $4,000
Tim $3,000
Erin $0

Tim bet just $1,000. His clue: Concord, Massachusetts has a visitor center for the park with this kind of soldier in its name. Tim’s correct response put him at $4,000 and put the show at the first break!

Erin actually forgot her 9th anniversary (her husband bought her a golf bag!); Andre once dated a girl who never spoke to him again after he defeated her soundly at Jeopardy! He has the last laugh now, getting onto the show!

Coming out of the break, Erin did get in with 3 correct responses! Tim and Andre ended up with 5 more apiece! Scores at the end of 30:

Tim $8,400
Andre $6,400
Erin $1,600

A Triple Stumper I got (LEGENDS OF ROCK $800): The 2013 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees include this “Magic Man” sister act

DJ! round categories:
EGRETS ONLY
ARCHITECTURE
AROUND THE WORLD
MOVIES BY COUPLE
THE REFORMATION
WHAT A “FUN” TIME

The first Daily Double came out at ARCHITECTURE $800, on the round’s 4th clue. Scores were:
Tim $9,200
Andre $6,800
Erin $1,600

Disappointingly, Tim bet just $1,200. His clue: Amiens Cathedral is an example of Rayonnant, a phase of this style of architecture that features radiant lines of tracery. A correct response put him at $10,400 — and left a great deal of money on the table!

It took awhile for the final Daily Double to came out! Meanwhile, Tim picked up no fewer than 15 correct answers in the round, to 3 for Erin and 9 for Andre.

The final Daily Double was under EGRETS ONLY for $1200, on the 25th clue of the round. Scores:

Tim $24,800
Andre $9,600
Erin $2,400

Andre underbet here, in my opinion. I would have gone for at least $9,000. Andre bet $5,000. His clue: In 1953 an egret in flight was chosen as the symbol of this society formed in 1905. A correct response put him at $14,600.

Andre picked up 3 of the final 5 clues, leading to scores of:

Tim $24,800
Andre $20,200
Erin $4,800

FJ! category: 20th CENTURY HISTORY

FJ! clue: In terms of British monarchs, it’s next in the sequence seventh, fifth, eighth, sixth…

Erin 4800 + 4000 = 8800
Andre 20200 + 5000 = 25200
Tim 24800 – 15601 = 9199

Andre is the new champion; his first title defense comes against Megan Hickey and Matt Noble!

J! round categories:
IT’S MY PARTY
HEALTH & MEDICINE
TAGLINES
THE NFL
FOREIGN STREET SIGNS
FROM “L” TO “M”

I noticed that Matt seemed very interested in keeping the game moving quickly! It was Megan, though, who played the first Daily Double, under FROM “L” TO “M” $600! Scores were:

Megan $800
Andre $800
Matt $400

Megan, seeming surprised that she could bet up to $1,000, bet just $800. Her clue: Tepid, or lacking enthusiasm or conviction. She did come up with the correct response, and her score doubled up to $1,600.

By the end of the first 15 clues, the scores were at:

Megan $3,000
Matt $3,000
Andre -$400

Megan, in addition to being a public defender, is also an Irish step dancer, after watching Riverdance at the age of 9 in New York City!

The game was moving along at a brisk pace, until we saw what seemed like a minute-long Michelle Obama clue. We did get through a full 30, though! Scores at the end of 30:

Matt $6,800
Megan $2,600
Andre $1,200

DJ! round categories:
AUTHORS ON THEMSELVES
WAR OF WORDS
TONY-WINNING ACTRESSES
SCOTLAND
LOCK
“NESS”

AUTHORS ON THEMSELVES $1200 had a Daily Double, this one was the earlier of the two played! Matt got to play it, and scores were:

Matt $7,600
Megan $3,400
Andre $1,200

Matt bet $5,000. I like the way he plays this game! His clue: “Somewhere in Germany is a stream called the Vonne. That is the source of my curious name”. It took me a few seconds to figure it out, but Matt wasn’t able to — he said “Von Goethe” and fell to $2,600. “Stupid.” he said.

There were other negs keeping scores down through the middle of the round; the final Daily Double came out under WAR OF WORDS $2000. It was Matt’s again, with scores of:

Matt $5,400
Megan $1,400
Andre -$400

Matt bet $5. I think he may have been snakebitten by the first one! His clue: Bolt to the top of the class if you know an arbalest is another name for this medieval weapon. He went for “longbow” and fell to $5,395.

The final few categories did see the scores make their way back up! 2 clues were left unplayed as well! It ended up being a runaway for Matt, with scores of:

Matt $12,195
Megan $5,800
Andre $3,600

FJ! category: BEST PICTURE WORDPLAY

FJ! clue: From 2005, it’s the last Best Picture Oscar winner whose name is just one syllable

Andre 3600 + 42 = 3642
Megan 5800 + 1401 = 7201
Matt 12195 + 195 = 12390

He’ll be playing tomorrow to wrap up the week! Jeanie will blog it; see you then!
