Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Tonight’s opening game is interesting, in the respect that Matt absolutely has more to play for than either Mattea or Sam. With a victory in this game, Matt would turn the later game into a dead rubber; he would be on 9 points, 4 ahead of Amy, and would clinch a spot in the semifinals. Even if they finish third, Mattea (currently on 8 points) would have the tiebreaker over Amy (currently on 5), by way of Mattea’s two victories (to Amy’s zero). Even Sam has something to play for, even if Sam can’t advance at this point—if Sam wins and Amy finishes third, Sam would take the extra $25,000 for fifth place.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they can, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.
