Warning: This page contains spoilers for the May 23, 2023, first game of Jeopardy! Masters — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. It will be updated alongside the Eastern Time airing of the show, beginning at about 8:00 PM Eastern.
This game’s Jeopardy! Masters contestants:
Matt Amodio, a postdoctoral researcher from Cambridge, Massachusetts (0 points)
Mattea Roach, a writer & podcaster from Toronto, Ontario, Canada (1 point)
James Holzhauer, a self-described game show villain from Las Vegas, Nevada (6 points)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Today’s third semifinal is between James, Mattea, and Matt, the 1, 3, and 4 seeds after the quarterfinals, with #2 seed Andrew He sitting out. I’m hoping Mattea won’t feel too down about missing an opportunity to beat James in last night’s second game, but instead, potentially take their incredibly strong performance on the signaling device as a positive to take into this game.
One other thing of note going into today’s game: I spent today auditing my statistics pages and noticed a couple of mistakes from earlier in the tournament regarding my “buzzing in first” stats. They have been corrected, and the running totals are correct.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they can, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.
