Andy's Pre-Game Thoughts:
Tonight's second game of Jeopardy! Masters is a rematch of last season's final, between Yogesh Raut, Juveria Zaheer, and Victoria Groce.
The Unified Prediction Model does think that Victoria has a reasonably good chance of avenging her defeat from last year's final; it gives her a 38.7% chance of winning and a 30.5% chance of taking the 1 point for second. Meanwhile, Yogesh is second favorite with a 33.2% chance of winning and a 37.2% chance of coming in second in this game, while Juveria has a 28.1% chance of victory and a 32.3% chance of finishing second. That being said, though, regardless of the outcome of the tournament for Juveria, she has decided upon Jeopardy! retirement at the conclusion of this event. As Juveria told me earlier today, "I came into this with zero background except for Reach for the Top 25 years ago, and had to get my knowledge up to this level over three years while working full time and with two kids. I have loved every second but it's time to stop for a while." To me, that makes sense—Juveria's job isn't particularly compatible with long-term preparation to stay at this level. I'll certainly be disappointed that this will be Juveria's last event, but I'm still going to enjoy watching her over the next two weeks.
