Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Tonight’s opening semifinal is a rematch of a game I said on May 9th was in the running for the best game of all time: James Holzhauer vs. Andrew He vs. Matt Amodio. Those three players combined for $66,400 going into Final, with James and Matt tied at $28,400, with Matt Amodio giving James Holzhauer his only loss of the competition to date. All three of these players can win this opening semifinal, and this outcome will absolutely depend on who does the best on the four major clues (the three Daily Doubles and Final Jeopardy). James is absolutely still the favorite to win—but there’s certainly a disagreement among many regarding the degree to which James is the favorite. I still firmly believe that there’s significant variance at this level of Jeopardy!—it was that variance that worked against James in Greatest of All Time, and it could help or hinder him here.
