Watching the teachers and college tournament reruns is a reminder of the upcoming Tournament of Champions. According to the TOC tracker, over one-third of the TOC participants will be three-game winners. This seems to be a high-than-usual figure. Would this be the biggest number of three-game winners in any TOC? And the number of 5-plus winners (four) seems low, especially when compared to the last few years. Again, is there any way of knowing if this figure is unusual?

The 26 ToCs held have included a grand total of 13 three-game winners.
The most 3-game winners in a ToC was five in 2006 (one of whom, Michael Falk, won it); no other ToC has had more than two.As to Andy’s comment below, my only slight disagreement would be that it could be somewhere between 18-19 weeks of regular play. With the September 28 college test pointing toward a February 2017 College Championship, it’s quite possible we might see the ToC and College going back to back. If so, since Teen will already be Wednesday-to-Tuesday, I could easily see Feb. 1 to 14 and Feb. 15 to 28 for tournaments (as was done in Season 28). In any case, plenty of time for three-time champs to be bumped off – even Philip Tiu.
