It’s nice to be back. I think the hiatus was the best thing for us. I don’t even feel like the same person, somehow. Maybe it’ll show in my writing.
One thing hasn’t changed though, apparently: My impatience. I’m unwilling to wait until the e-mail comes from my phone with Jared’s and Melissa’s pictures, so I just have Tova’s today.
Tova Meyer (a dead ringer for Sasha Cohen)
Yesterday, Jared Hall won his third episode. He started with Islands, and Melissa Jurgens kept going back to the easy Name-Dropping Songs, which I swept.
Kathie Lee and Hoda read all the clues in Potent Potables. The first one took so long, I worried, naturally, about seeing all the clues in the round. (We did, but there were 6 clues left with a minute to go.) Jared went back to Islands then, and it was the Daily Double of the round.

Jared wagered 1000 on this clue: “A poet described this divided island as a ‘golden-green leaf thrown into’ the Mediterranean Sea.'” Jared got it right. It kinda sounded then like Mr. Trebek was taking us to the first break. I wonder if Jared thought so too, because it took him a while to pick his signaling device back up. Melissa got 2 more right before it really was time for the first commercial break.

Since I’m an RN (and the first two clues were easy), I’d have let it ride here. Jared wagered 5000 on this clue, read by Jimmy: “Ligaments connect one bone to another. Muscle’s connected to a bone by one of these, which pulls the bone when a muscle contracts.” I was right – easy! Naturally Jared got it too. He also got the next two. I do believe he swept the category, but no one applauded! Jared then got the next two right, and found the Daily Double in Americana while the girls were silent. He had 20200 then. He wagered 5000 again on this clue: “When this stone split asunder in 1774, it was said to be an omen of America’s split from the British empire.” He got it right. He got the next one right, and then Tova finally got one. She dove for the 2000 clue in Ballet Dancers in the Cinema. Who knew there was more than one woman by this last name? Good thing I knew the full name of the only one I know: “This Native American ballerina who died in 2013 played Anna Pavlova in Esther Williams’ ‘Million Dollar Mermaid.” Melissa rung in but didn’t know the first name of the person in question. Tova picked it up.
There were 8 clues left when Mr. Trebek gave the less-than-a-minute warning. Two clues were triple-stumpers, and two clues were left covered at the end of the round. I guess I was in la-la land (that should be part of my name), but I was shocked by Jared’s score at the end of the round.

Melissa 6600 (2 wrong) To add insult to injury, Melissa’s response of “Han Christian Anderson” (no ‘s’) was counted wrong after the commercial break. But fair is fair. Mr. Trebek said then, “But Jared is the man to catch and they won’t do it today.”
Tova 9400 (2 right)
The Final Jeopardy category was U.S. Places. This was the clue: “A logo on this town’s website includes its incorporation date, 1981, as well as the historic date Dec. 17, 1903.” I don’t know why but the first thing Mr. Trebek said was “Jared, we’ll get to you in a minute…” ? Jared looked befuddled too.
I was stumped by this one and I don’t think I even had a guess. Neither girl got it either, and Melissa even bothered to start to write “I don’t know” instead of a town. She lost all but a dollar. Tova lost 3900. Jared got it! He added 10000. We’ll see him tomorrow.
