Ah yes, it’s that time of day again – blogging on Jeopardy! Will Larry have picked up the pace today?

I thought I’d do well in Books in German but I got my butt kicked. I only got this 200 clue: “Mark Twain: ‘Der Arme Prinz und der Reiche Bettler.'” Two of them were triple-stumpers, though. And I did sweep They Said It Wouldn’t Last. I was mildly surprised this was a clue, because the correct response was also the correct response to yesterday’s tweeted clue: “After 2 weeks of unofficial wedded bliss, this ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ & Tracey Edmonds arrested their relationship.”
At the first break, David led with 3800, while Kinu had 1800 and Larry had 1600.
I got this triple-stumper in Edible Rhyme Time: “A nervous, agitated dessert like flan.” This is my lovely sister holding her lovely and scrumptious flan. (Take it from me.)
And that’s my Aunt Paula in the mirror.
Larry got the Daily Double of the round, in They Were Right. He’d gotten one right and one wrong since the break, and had 1800. David had gotten 2 right and had 4600. Kinu had gotten 3 right also and had 3400. Larry wagered 1000 on this easy clue: “Ponying up $15 million to buy 828,000 square miles from this country was pretty shrewd of Jefferson.” Larry got it right.
I said what David did on this triple-stumper in They Were Right: “This 17th century Italian stated that pendulums of equal length swing at the same rate whether their arcs are large or small.”
How appropriate that Mr. Trebek gave the less-than-a-minute warning with the category Chop Chop! left! And who got to select first from the category? Larry! We saw all the clues though. David was in the lead when the round ended, with 5000. He’d gotten 2 right and one wrong since Larry’s Daily Double. Larry had also gotten 2 right and one wrong, and had 3000. Kinu had gotten one right and one wrong, and had 2600.
Larry found the first Daily Double of Double Jeopardy in Canadian Provincial Newspapers. He’d gotten 8 right since the round began, and had 13000. David had gotten 6 right and one wrong and had 9000. Kinu had gotten one right and had 3800. Larry wagered 4000 on this one. Maybe he was influenced by Mr. Trebek saying he led by 4000?: “The Inverness Oran.” He and I got it right. I think that’s the only one I got right in the category. (Sorry, Andy.)
I didn’t like this clue in Colleges & Universities: “On Nov. 18, 1920 Syrian Protestant College became the American University of this capital — be careful here.” I thought “be careful” meant if you go there, and I said what Larry did. It was a triple-stumper. The next clue was the next Daily Double, and Kinu found it. He’d gotten one right and 4200. Larry had gotten the one wrong and had 15000. David still had 9000. There were 8 clues left after this one. Kinu wagered 3000 on this one still in Colleges & Universities: “This Ivy League university was founded by the most successful printer of his day.” I immediately thought of Franklin but thought I must be wrong. Kinu didn’t get this one either.
This time we had 7 clues left when Mr. Trebek gave the less-than-a-minute warning. And this time 3 clues were left covered, and once again they were in a category where I’d like to have seen all of the clues: I Watch That Show Religiously. Larry had gotten 3 right since Kinu’s Daily Double, and he had a lock on the game with 18600. David had gotten one wrong and had 8200. Kinu had gotten 2 right and one wrong and had 2000.
The Final Jeopardy category was Classic Hit Songs, and this was the clue: “In 1962 Chatham County, Georgia gave this name to a body of water flowing past Johnny Mercer’s childhood home.” I didn’t know this one but I can be proud of my effort. Kinu got it right and added 6 dollars. David was wrong and lost 27 dollars. Larry had it wrong too and lost 2000, but of course we’ll see him tomorrow. Oh boy – Is Andy gonna have to update the ToC list??
I’m ashamed of my Coryat but since I’m posting it on the boards I may as well here: 12600 with 8400 in negs. I negged 4 times in Colleges & Universities.
