Josh got off to a hot start, getting 6 of the first 7 questions right to jump into an early lead. But Rachel and Jan did get some of the questions in the back half of the opening segment, leading to scores after 15 of:

More Triple Stumpers led to us not seeing all 30 clues in the round! However, before we got there, it was Jan who saw the round’s Daily Double on the 29th clue of the round (PATRON SAINTS $800). Scores:

This round played much better than the opening 30! Jan started his recovery quite nicely here and was splitting the early clues with Josh (and nearly caught up to Rachel), but Rachel got two in a row in 19TH CENTURY AMERICAN leading to a Daily Double at the $1600 box there (10th clue of the round). Scores at this point:

Rachel bet $3,000. Her clue: An 1877 cartoon showed 12 widows crying in bed, mourning the death of this man. She went for the wrong leader and her score fell to $2,800.
It was Jan who played the final Daily Double after finding it under LET’S GO CAROLING $1200. Scores at this point:

Jan bet just $4,000, though. His clue: The view of a certain Middle Eastern city inspired Pastor Phillips Brooks to write this carol in 1868. Jan almost left off the opening word, but corrected himself in time!
Once the minute-to-go warning came, Rachel was smart enough to take categories in reverse order and got quite a few of them (2 $2,000 and 2 $1,600 clues will help with that immensely) to overtake both of the men; Josh did get the final clue given, though, to re-take the lead!
