Hey, everyone! Andy here, and I hope everybody made it through Sandy okay!

This week’s contestants:
Anne Fierro – Fort Lee, NJ
Ariane Helou – Santa Cruz, CA
Robert Herzfeld – Benton, AR
John-Clark Levin – Ojai, CA
John Mahone – Brooklyn, NY
Hillary Meyer – Middletown, NY
Paul Nelson – Iowa City, IA
Barry Peterson – El Paso, TX
Elizabeth Pfeifer – Oakton, VA
Dana Selke – Westerville, OH
Keith Whitener – Charlotte, NC

Today’s challengers for Keith are John-Clark Levin and Anne Fierro! Will Keith be able to get to Win #4 today?

J! round categories: 2-LETTER RESPONSES, CASEY AT THE BAT, TV, LEWIS OR CLARK, ASIA LOVES THAT AMERICAN BRAND, DO NOT PASS “O”

John-Clark got to the first three responses in 2-LETTER RESPONSES, whereas Keith got to $800 and the Daily Double at the clue below it!

Scores:

John-Clark $1,200
Keith $800
Anne $0

Keith, betting $1,000, saw the following: “These 2 letters & a number indicate the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution”. Answering instantly, his score went to $1,800.

John-Clark seemed to be the one with the better buzzer timing thus far, as his doing well in DO NOT PASS “O”, TV, and LEWIS OR CLARK brought the scores at the end of the first segment to:

John-Clark $4,200
Keith $2,600
Anne $1,000

Being from the NYC area, I really hope Anne both gets through Sandy okay, as well as being able to see her episode at some point!

As a baseball fan, I really enjoyed the CASEY AT THE BAT category (yes, I did run it!). Keith seemed to do pretty well with it as well, and that helped him into the lead at the end of the Jeopardy! round! Scores:

Keith $7,000
John-Clark $5,000
Anne $1,800

DJ! round categories: GEOGRAPHIC TERMS; IT’S A FACT; CIVIL WAR NAMES; FOREIGN WORDS & PHRASES; ART & MYTHOLOGY; HELLO, CLEVELAND!

Would it kill you, Jeopardy!, to do for Hamilton, Ontario what you’re doing for Cleveland, Ohio? You’re on a new station here, too!

Keith made a concerted effort to hunt here, and after missing in GEOGRAPHIY TERMS and the bottom ART & MYTHOLOGY he went to CIVIL WAR NAMES $1200, where the Daily Double was waiting for him! Scores:

Keith $11,400
John-Clark $7,800
Anne $2,200

Keith bet $4,000. His clue: Gen. Bee’s coment about this man may not have been a compliment of steadfastness but a complaint about a lack of support. Keith’s miss of this clue, and the “of course!” look on his face, brought him back down to $7,400. Amusingly, the answer to the $400 clue, gotten to later, was in fact Keith’s response to this question!

Next selection: ART & MYTHOLOGY $1600. Behind it, the second Daily Double! Not of the “once bitten, twice shy” persuasion, Keith went $5,000 this time! His clue: In a painting by Cezanne, she’s cozying up to a swan. Another incorrect by Keith brings him all the way down to $2,400.

Remember my “Fortune Favors The Bold”, though? Both Keith and Anne were quickly able to get out of lock game position, and it led to a very exciting game down the stretch! It was still anybody’s game going into Final!

Scores going into FJ!:

John-Clark $13,800
Keith $10,800
Anne $6,600

FJ! category: MAMMALS

FJ! clue: Ancient Romans knew this animal featured in their circuses as a hippotigris

Anne 6600 – 6599 = 1
Keith 10800 + 10799 = 21599
John-Clark 13800 – 13698 = 102

Keith’s 4-day total is now $87,998 — and while I very much disliked all 3 Final Jeopardy! bets today, I did very much like the way Keith played today’s first 60 clues! He’ll be back tomorrow to try to get win #5, and so will I!
