J! round categories: 30 ROCK, LET'S EAT THAI, 8-LETTER CROSSWORD CLUES "P", I'M JUST SWAMPED!, NOT SO GAY PAREE, ELECTION YEAR BEFORE & AFTER
I think that 30 ROCK may have been on Laura's dream board; she went back to it whereas AJ and Tracey just wanted to get out of it. At the end of 15, most of Laura's score was as a result of that category. She led at $3,400, AJ had $2,400, and Tracey had $1,000.
Laura definitely seemed to be enjoying herself up there, I'm pretty sure that she high-fived AJ going into the first break!
And then...
Alex: Laura Sikes Jambon.
Laura: Hi.
Alex: French for "ham". From Rochester. Had a pygmy goat in college. Why?
Laura: I did. Uh, for the cuteness factor.
Alex: Yeah. Well, there are a lot of other things that are cute. How 'bout a little cat?
Laura: I had a little cat, and one time my little goat--
Alex: But the goat ate it?
Laura: --ate a chunk of her fur. She didn't enjoy that.
Alex: No.
Laura: Billy also enjoyed eating a lot of things, like a 3-wick candle, an entire bag of Hershey Kisses, and unfortunately, he met his demise by eating a bag of Quikrete.
Alex: That's not--wait, wait a minute. Was it a 60-pound or an 80-pound bag, because...
Laura: Alex, you're being insensitive.
Alex: You're right. Uh... A.J., I don't want to talk to you.
I feel as if this is the first time Alex has just outright skipped an interview.
Shortly after the interviews, it was AJ that got to the Daily Double, under NOT SO GAY PAREE $800. The scores:
Laura $3,600
AJ $2,800
Tracey $1,000
AJ bet clue value. His clue: In his 52 B.C. "commentaries", he wrote that the Parisii burned their town rather than surrender to him. His correct response tied him for the lead.
I was very disappointed that they left ELECTION YEAR BEFORE AND AFTER until the end, because we didn't get to finish it!
Your scores at the end of 29:
AJ $5,200
Laura $5,000
Tracey $2,400
DJ! round categories: 30s ROCK, NIXON'S ENEMIES LIST, HOW NOVEL!, DON'T MESS WITH TAXES, THE TELL-TALE HEART, "OGRAPHY"
Much like yesterday, AJ just rolled through the ROCK categories to take a commanding lead in the game early on in the DJ! round. It was AJ that got to the first Daily Double in the round, at the bottom of THE TELL-TALE HEART. The scores:
AJ $17,600
Laura $7,000
Tracey $2,400
Betting just $1,600, surprising for a student of diagnostic sonography, his clue: An irregular heartbeat may be caused by an imbalance of these ions that conduct current, such as sodium. His correct response put him to $19,200.
AJ kept on dominating the game through the midway point of the round; after getting control of the board though, Laura started at the bottom of HOW NOVEL! and found the Daily Double immediately.
The scores:
AJ $20,400
Laura $8,600
Tracey $1,200
Laura's words: "Well, I'd like to make it a True Daily Double, Alex."
Her clue: "If this alleged report is true, that is the last of Roy Hobbs in organized baseball"
She got it, much to her surprise! Cue the home run into the light standard -- Laura now has $17,200.
I think that the shock of getting the clue right threw her for a bit, because she rang in on the $1,600 clue and was unable to pull the answer. But at least we have ourselves a game going into Final!
Scores going into Final Jeopardy!:
AJ $22,400
Laura $17,600
Tracey $1,200
FJ! category: THE UNITED NATIONS
FJ! clue: Of the 6 official languages used at the U.N., this one is the last alphabetically
Tracey 1200 + 1000 = 2200
Laura 17600 + 14000 = 31600
AJ 22400 + 12801 = 35201 (2-day champ, $56,002)
Definitely one of the best games I've seen on Jeopardy! in quite a while; Laura should be proud of herself, she gave a very strong champion a very good fight.
My Coryat today: $27,200 (36 right, 2 wrong)

This was a great game! I have seen Alex skip an interview before. I am sure there is someone with a better memory who can recall the circumstances, but I remember once when he spent the entire interview time with only one contestant.
Laura reminded me of Zooey Deschanel. (Not a good thing.)
My Coryat today was 25400 (28000 without negs).
Check it out: I peeked at our traffic and saw that Laura's got a blog.
I wondered if anyone else picked up on the Zooey Deschanel vibe.
Also, interviews have been skipped at least once before. On the May 2, 2008 show, the first contestant interview went so long that Alex skipped both of the other contestants.
Frankly IMO if Laura reminds you of Zooey then I think Jeopardy! needs more Zooey.
This was one of my favourite episodes of the season.
Speaking of memorable interviews, the one that sticks in my head is once Alex goes over to a woman, the middle contestant (as I remember). He says "So you told your friends you wanted to tell me something?" She replies "Enough chit chat Alex, I'm here for the money." With a straight face Alex takes two steps to the left & the next contestant. Anyone remember who that was by any chance?
I was distracted and not really paying attention during Laura's interview but the burst of laughter from the audience got my attention. I looked up and sadly only heard Alex's remark to AJ that he didn't want to talk to him. Fortunately, I am on the west coast and Jeopardy repeats on another cable channel immediately after the first showing, so I decided to watch the interviews again to see what was so funny. When Alex steps up to Laura the sound on the broadcast cuts to DEAD SILENCE - apparently someone at the tv station didn't find any humor in Laura's interview. The sound only came back on as Alex started walking back to his podium. Made me find this blog to finally get what was so funny...
Laura's aggressive playing helped me enjoy her interview even more - and the high-five was great :-)
Hi, I'm happy to answer any questions, too. And hi, Lynn and Liza! Nice to see you about, ladies!
To see my poor little Billy goat, visit my blog at lolajambon.tumblr.com.
Hi, I'd be happy to answer any questions. And it's nice to see you here, Lynn and Liza! I had a great time meeting both of you and you both did wonderfully on your shows.
I posted a pic of my poor, late Billy goat on my blog, lolajambon.tumblr.com. I also did a short IAmA on reddit. http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/wk2dx/iama_jeopardy_contestant_that_cracked_trebek_up/
I'm also at @laurajambon on twitter. (Yeah, so what? So I love social media. SUE ME. Or, preferably, holler at me!)
P.S. I've heard about the sound dropping and I'm wondering if I really DID get censored on the West Coast or if the audio just dropped? How badass would I be if I could be all, "Yeah, they had to censor my Jeopardy! appearance for getting too REAL with Alex.) But really, if it was censored, I think it's silly. It's not like we would ever let the goat eat Quikrete on purpose.
So even though I think it was probably a glitch, if it wasn't, I have some sassy things to say. I mean, what? We can't talk about animals dying on TV but we can advertise for Tyson? I mean, really. People eat animals that die under way worse circumstances (though I try not to think about what Billy went through) in industrial meat factories all the time. And those animals certainly don't have the lovely life Billy did--full of walks through weedy fields, dog and mule friends to chase/stand stock still with, and loving owners who never even once tried to eat him. NOT ONCE.
