I can't imagine why, but Jeopardy! was pre-empted by some weird cartoon on some weird network called "qubo." I watched the whole half-hour just in case (by myself in the basement, banished by my family), and I waited until the next half-hour to make sure it wouldn't start then. The onscreen guide said that Jeopardy! was going to be on, so I can't explain it. The only thing I could do is tweet my displeasure to the channel that was supposed to air it. If I hear back from them, I'll let you know.
But a promise is a promise. My exciting news is...I'm ringing in the new year with a new contest. This one will be like the last one: I'm asking you to post your Coryat scores in comments here. Here is a copy of the scoresheet, created by Josh Horstman from Indianapolis, Indiana. The more you play, the more chances you have to win. This time I will give you two weeks, so that is 10 chances! What is the prize, you ask? I'm giving you a choice of three things:
1) Jeopardy! for the Wii
2) A copy of Stephen Baker's Final Jeopardy: Man vs. Machine and the Quest to Know Everything (that is, once it comes out in February!)
3) A Jeopardy Challenger (the device I use to keep track of my score at home)
Like last time, you can post your scores all at once, one day at a time, or anything in between. Start Monday, January 3. Also like last time, I'll join you in using the Coryat method to keep track of my score. Any questions? This will be fun! Help me spread the word!

Qubo is one of my favorite channels on TV. What show did you see? And do you get the Qubo channel or something? I may be in the contest. I said so that I have already a Jeopardy game for the Wii because I got it for Christmas. I hope you have good luck on the first day of the year. And my dad wants to know if you got banished or something and hope the rest of your day is good. By the way are there tornadoes in your state? You have a basement. Thanks, Peter >:-( (for getting banished.)
Hi, Peter. I hope you will enter the contest. I know you played last time. I had you in mind, because I knew you already Jeopardy! for Wii and that you probably didn't want a book that might be too advanced for children. That's why I'm giving the option of the Jeopardy Challenger.
I doubt I get "qubo." Maybe they are partners with NBC, and that's why their programming was airing? I think the title had the word "Wendy" in it, or some other female "W" name. I only meant that I was asked to go to another television since I wanted to see if Jeopardy! was going to come on, because my family wanted to watch football rather than a cartoon. It was not a bad thing at all.
We do have tornadoes in my state, but none recently.
I just found your blog tonight (January 14). I was fooling around on Google and typed in my son's name (Stephen Weingarten) and it came back to your site and Stephen's 3 part interview with you.
It was fun attending the Tournament of Champions with Stephen and my daughter. I was proud of Stephen's performance. He did great.
That is so cool, Gary! I will tell Stephen that you left a comment here. Thanks for doing that. :-) I hope you'll be back.
